Here is some information on Pagerank, why you shouldn’t worry about Pagerank and backlinks in general. Just thought I’d spill my thoughts for a little bit.

    Quick Explanation of Pagerank

Pagerank is a value given to individual web pages (not web sites) by the Google Search Engine. The initial concept of Pagerank was to give each specific web page on the internet a grade, 0 through 10 with 10 being the highest possible grade. The only way to build a web page’s Pagerank value is to build back links to that specific web page; this includes internal links as well as external links. So, the theory goes if you have more backlinks you have a higher Pagerank value. However, this isn’t true in the wild due to the fact that it’s the Pagerank value of the backlinks that actually determines your Pagerank value. It goes even deeper; each backlink may have multiple outbound and internal links on that web page linking to yours, this in effect dilutes the value that is sent out to each web page. So, with it all said and done Pagerank is simply a grade on a web page’s inbound links, with quality being more important than quantity.

Why Pagerank Shouldn’t Be Your Main Priority

We all know that backlinks play a major factor in Google Search Results, it’s not the final deciding factor; however it does play a decent role. Now, this makes anyone interested in SEO think “Hey, I need to get backlinks from high Pagerank websites and I’ll be number one!”, guess what pal it’s not that cut and dry. The most important factor in obtaining backlinks is “relevancy”, this means web pages link to yours should be “relevant” to your content. Meaning, an auto part online store will benefit much more from links from an auto related website than a stock market related website. Google is big on relevancy, it wants to see that sites related to yours in terms of content provide links to yours, showing Google that you’re a good source for this specific niche and\or content type. Instead of worrying about getting high Pagerank backlinks you should be worrying about getting relevant backlinks. Of course a high Pagerank relevant link will provide more value in terms of SEO, but just disenfranchise yourself from the whole Pagerank value concept and worry about relevant backlinks.

    Quality Relevant Backlinks EXPOSED

So at this point your wondering “What the hell should I be doing?”, well let me try to guide you. You should be worried about QRBs (Quality Relevant Backlinks). This is my little phrase I use when trying to find the best links for my web sites. The term quality refers to the web page itself having quality, useful and UNIQUE content. Relevant means the web page itself should be directly relevant to the content on my website. Don ‘t forget to use proper anchor text when building backlinks, use the exact keyword or keyword phrase you are trying to rank for; HOWEVER, make sure to change it up a bit and not keep using the same anchor text over and over again, see the example below.

    Primary Keyword: RV Loans
    • RV Loan
    • RV Loans
    • RV Finance
    • RV Financing
    • Motorhome Loan
    • Motorhome Loans
    • Motorhome Finance
    • Motorhome Financing
    • Website's Brand Name

As you can see above, the primary keyword I want to rank for is RV Loans and I use other relevant and related keywords in my anchor to compliment it and make it look more natural. Not to mention those keywords would be optimal to rank for and would bring the relevant traffic you are looking for.

    The Rock Bottom Line

Stop worry about Pagerank, worry about building quality relevant backlinks from web pages that contain relevant and unique content. Mix up your anchor texts properly and try to stay as related to the specific keyword as possible; trying using what’s provided by Google at the bottom in “Searches Related Too”. With the right mind set on backlink building and proper on-page optimization there isn’t anything you can achieve!

Author Note: I didn’t even touch the surface of “writing quality unique content” and how helpful that is on its own. I’ll save that for another day. Remember… CONTENT IS KING!

Yeah I definately mix up my keywords now. I aim for the top 4 keywords as anchor text. I can also rank for more keywords as well this way.
