    Hello,

I have a small doubt about keyword density.

    1. Can any tel me how this keyword density is calculated.
    2. Is keyword density is calculated for all the tags including [Title ,Meta tags, Alt tag, visible text, domain.. etc]
or only for the visible text.

    3. All say for Google & Msn the Keyword density should be around 7% to 8%.
For Yahoo around 4% to 5%.
    Is it correct.
    4. This [5% to 6% or 7% to 8%] keyword density is only for visible text or for entire site.[All tags]

    With Regards

    1. To achieve a keyword density ratio of 3%, the keyword needs to appear three times for every 100 words.

From what I understand it is only the words on your page that are calculated. I personally set mine at around 5 to 6%.

What might be difficult to understand is the WPP ratio compared to keyword density. Words Per Page can be set at 1000 and the keyword density set at 5% which would equal 50 keywords.

But what is the rule of thumb. You can have a 3% density on a 30 word page.

Another factor and this is a question I have always wondered an is difficult to find accurate information on is the "Template to unique word ratio"

I set the sitewide template at around 25% and then unique body content makes up 75%.

I find Yahoo really likes pages of complete 100% unique content. But who knows it is tough to find this answer.

I don't really beleive in keyword dentisy. I think you can go up to 25% without being penalized - I've seen some top sites get this kind of precentages on all search engines.

I had read somewhere that Google has the strictest keyword density tolerance of 2-3% while that of Yahoo and MSN is a bit higher at 5-7%.

The preferred keyword density ratio varies from search engine to search engine. The recommended ratio of keyword density by the experts is in the range of 2-8%.

I agree with Michael. Don't focus too much on keyword density and frequency. We have seen sites ranking well for competitive terms with very low density. They had a lot of incoming links with anchor text related to those terms. Focus on content instead and get good referrals.

Seriously, keyword density isn't even worth worrying about anymore. It's not about how many times you use your keywords, but where.

Concentrate on using them in the main tags on your page, H1, alt, bold, italic, and in anchor text all works better than worrying about if your keyword density id 2.5% or 2.6%

i just right good content, in that your keyterms need repeating to get your point across, generally creates favourable results.

I recently redid a couple of my sites to bring the "keyword density" in line with the experts (it was at around 15 to 20% and I brought it down to 5 to 8%).

What happened is that I dropped considerable in MSN for my main keywords - to the point where I no longer get any traffic from MSN. As for yahoo and google very little change (I wasn't ranking very well with them already.)

So it does seem that keyword density is a factor, but in my experience, MSN seems to like a higher keyword density than the gurus recommend.

I've found that MSN likes higher keyword density as well. As for Google and Yahoo, I find more value in inbound links and link text by far outweighs the keyword density on page.

Hmm.. same as you. I also bring down the percetage of "keyword density" on one of my site. But, haven't see any significant changes in search engine.
