Well, its not much costly. :)
You can live in Delhi easily for 1 week. :D
You will need to spend only $50 for 1 week. (Only for staying in a hotel) other charges applied.

    Well, its $150.

That $150 is the charge only for living in a Hotel for around 7 days !! ( Not a 5 star)
I am talking about a normal hotel. :)
If you wanna live in a five star hotel then you need to pay around $200/day. :D

    Hello,
It's nice to know that you are interested in visiting India.
Why not check out an Indian tourism website like: http://www.india-tourism.com/EN/index.html
    or anything similar to it.

Btw where are you living currently?
That would decide whether you can live well or not within budget.

And have you decided which city are you going to live in India?

I would say roughly about 6000 INR for 1 week (accomodation in a decent Hotel + food only).
6000 INR is about $125 USD appromixately.
This pricing is applicable for leading cities like Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai etc.

If you are staying in some small town - prices would be low.

Well, things in India are certainly pretty economical compared to USD. So if you get a coffee for $4+ in Starbucks - expect to pay only $2 in Barista or Cafe Coffee Day!

Hope that gives you some idea.
If you know the local language - you can bargain - and if you are accompanied by Indian - they can save you a lot of $$$ everywhere.

Wish you a pleasant stay in the largest democracy - do let everyone know your source and destination and perhaps local webmasters can have an eyeball with you!!!

Dude, which time are you living in? :p

I was in Delhi staying at a "The Taj Mahal Hotel" and it was a last minute booking, had to pay almost 300$ per day.

You have to take care of some things.

    1. Please get Govt. Approved guide.
    2. Nothing is expensive here. You just have to be clear about things like how much from where to where. Ask for radio cabs. Do not trust Auto drivers as they are not that trust worthy.
    3. India is beautiful. If you come to Chandigarh do let me know will love to meet you :)
