All of these calculations are just an estimate. You really can't tell the exact PR that your site is going to get in the next PR update. --Joe
No. If traffic increases inbound links, you can increase PR. Depends. The more quality inbound links you have, the higher your rankings for the keywords used in the link (or keywords on your page). Whether or not this translates into traffic depends on the popularity of the keyword. If you type in "lwfjoeijamndfijef1" into Google in a couple days, I'll bet $1 that this post will come up #1 in the rankings. That doesn't mean this thread will get any additional traffic though. A site with better PR will not necessarily be higher than other sites. It all depends on the PR of the sites linking to you, the keywords they use to link to you, how many sites are linking to you vs. your competitors, and various other minor factors. Many of the pages in the site in my sig have a #1 position for various keywords/phrases even though they have a PR 0-2. Yes, if the inbound link has a high PR. Get 1 link from a PR10 and you'll likely have a PR6-8. 1 inbound link from a PR1/2 won't give you a PR. PR is stored in Google's servers as a decimal #, then rounded for display purposes. So a PR 0 might actually be a PR 0.2. Inbound links only, not visitors. The more inbound links you have with a given keyword, the higher you'll rank for that keyword. Higher PR inbound links on that keyword will have more influence in your rank. So if 10,000 sites link to you with the link text "widget", you'll probably become the #1 site if someone types in widget. The best solution is building links organically. Create sites that people want to read and they'll share it with their friends, and link back to you. I always kid with my friends that I was "advertising" my site when commenting on forums and blogs, but it was always a great way for folks to discover my site and link to it. As a result, I received 33,000+ backlinks in ~6 months, only about 3,000 of which have nofollows (because they were comments I left on blogs).[/QUOTE] Let me know if you have more questions. In short, the answer is "build more and better backlinks to get ranked higher". Hope this helps, Anita
I assume rankings are where you are placed in a search result , so again assuming and reading between the lines your own pr doesn't really alter that position only the pr from any pages linking to your's, which in turn depend upon the keywords included within said links. Would it be reasonable to agree with W3bmaster and concentrate on rankings to drive traffic to your pages with keywords within your pages and links to your pages, as this would increase your own pr anyway ? If this is the case how do you discover your keywords. Does a keyword consist of a repeted word over and over or is there yet another 'formula' to generate keywords ? I have submitted to around 200 directories with the same title and text but these appear to be pr1 or pr0 pages. Are these submissions of no use ? Would I be about correct in saying that if you can find your own keywords and use them within your content and links you can grow your visitors organically like Anita says which in turn lets your site grow 'naturally'
