Few points that i think .,

•DMOZ databse is used by many other sites like Alexa, etc so indexing in DMOZ helps you to get listed at many other sites.

•DMOZ editors check the sites against some strict rules/conditions. so sites listed at DMOZ are considered as high quality in there category.

•DMOZ is owned/ran by few best internet companies Google, Mozilla coop, etc

•DMOZ is considered as Index of internet, so many people use DMOZ to do timepass [for stumbling through other sites] if they are bored of the sites they regularaly visit :D

    what you say ?

DMOZ is *** and it'd be nice if people would stop propagating its existence.

A quick forgettable glance is sufficient. As the internal quality is of unlimited foul definitions.

You seem to be on your own here with that opinion. Do you have any evidence to support your thoughts or have you just been unable to get your sites listed?

In reality - it is just another web directory... but its the first, most popular, and most trusted directory with a Pagerank 8 :)

Another reason they are so powerful is becasue Wikipedia is referencing them Everywhere!

Do you have to submit a site to be included? I have a site that gets some DMOZ traffic but I don't remember submitting it. Of course, since it takes so long to get listed maybe I just forgot that I submitted it.

    it is a free directory.

However, getting listed takes time, sometimes 1, 2 years or even more. In fact, getting listed depends on the quality of the editor of the category. A quality site may never be listed in its category while another site may be added to another category only after a few months.

In DMOZ, sites are sorted alphabetically while Google directory uses the same data sorted on PR basis.

A few years ago, Google offered the directory as an alternative of a keyword web search. Now, Google offers so many other search options (news, images, ...) so that the "search in the directory" option is hardly visible. However, the directory pages may also be found with a keyword web search.

Just an additional point: Google directory is just a duplicate content of DMOZ directory. But Google "forget" the duplicate content penalty for its directory
