Directory is a storage of data whose divided category and sub category .when we summit our data its directory site that called directory submmition
Do not depend on directory submission totally, it will help you little bit if you put your link in specific category and sub category. Better do other activities like web 2.0, link wheel, forum posting, blog commenting etc. with directory submission for ranking.
there is no limit, the question is does your link from directory is dofollow? Cause backlink is the important thing to earn rank in search engine, many directory on net are not dofollow link,
Directory Submission can help get your site indexed by major search engines as well as build quality back links to your site. More the number of links, your ranking increases considerably. But directory submission is not alone helpful for higher ranking. You should also try other methods such as article submission, social bookmarking, blog post, guest post and forum posting to build back links.. But one thing to be kept in mind is to avoid spammy content or else you surely gonna get penalized.
Directory submission is most important in getting backlinks for the website, it helps in promoting your website by creating quality links. Google looks for backlinks of a website to rank..
Directory submission works, however, you should spend your time looking for good quality directories that are in your niche because they'll help you the most. Here's an experiment I did where the only link building I did was with web directories and you can see the results were quite positive. http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2172178
@freelistfool - Excellent research. Appreciate your patience, experiment and thanks for sharing it here in DP.
Emphasis-added. Ignore directories at your peril BUT rely on them at your peril also. Which is why seeing threads like "I submitted to 5000 directories and nothing happened!" isn't surprising. Rather than learn how best to submit, and then taking a quality versus quantity approach, people are just blanket submitting to 5 or 10 thousand directories and expecting results. Not realising that because they are submitting junk they are getting listed in all the worst directories and rejected from all the best ones. Then, because they've spent all their time on doing that alone, thinking that 5000 is better than 100, they've neglected all the other forms of marketing and have a negative atittude towards directories based on their negative experience. As you've said it really is just one type of marketing. If you think about it in bricks 'n' mortars terms then directory submission could be seen as something like "business cards". You're definitely going to have them, but you are never going to rely on them solely to market your business. You are going to advertise in local newspapers or on television/radio; have your shop front windows advertising; send out flyers; solicit friends and barter with related services; as well as word-of-mouth. etc etc etc. Relying solely on any one of those marketing tools will doom someone to failure. You need to rely on ALL of them.
select first your directory submission before you join with them, cause many point will make you link become bad in Google, also take effect to your backlink value
Yes !..of course ..Directory submission is proven to be a wonderful method for gaining quality one-way incoming back links. Even in SEO ( Search Engine Optimizing people ) knows how incoming links play an important role in today's search engine optimization procedure. Higher the quality of incoming links better your search engine rankings and internet visibility.
Directory submission is good, but if you are doing on free, it will take long time. So you have to apply other SEO techniques as well. Only directory submission cant give you desired results.
