About.com links not showing in Google

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by JenM, Nov 2, 2005.

I have a new site up since early July. Got two links from About.com (PR 6 and PR 4) that don't show up as backlinks when I check with Google. I've been on About for at least a month, probably longer. Does their PR not get passed along? Or does Google just hate me?

I'm new, so be gentle, please! Thanks!

I checked a couple of random outbound links on their site and they seem to be redirected rather than a regular link. Not sure but I would guess that is why

Google only reports a sampling of backlinks, not everyone they know about. Check your links in Yahoo or MSN.

They sell through one of the popular link broker services.

do you know which? I've see howstuffworks, answers and topix, but never about.com ? I'd kinda prefer to have one of my (shameless plug) excellently written articles on there, but I'm not above paying LOL

The last time I saw them I'm almost positive it was texlinkbrokers . com. It was a couple months back so I'm sure if they are still available.

I think thats them. I found a PR9 "authority" site and some others. I think TLB is a little overpriced, sometimes, though.

I actually wrote an article and submitted it. She liked the article, put it up, then liked my site so much, added it to her list of recommended sites to visit. So far, it's been a great referrer traffic-wise.

How'd you submit the article? I've been trying to get on there forever on one of a myriad different topics. Did you just email it to them?

    Chicago,

Thanks for the compliment! While my writing is serviceable, I think it was more my recognizing there was a spot that need filling and my article was a good fit. Plus, I'm not afraid to ask for a link!

    Lorien,

Yep. Found out the Guide was accepting article submissions and sent it off. She was quick and got it all up and running within a day, so that was a pleasant surprise. If you search for something like "submit articles" within about.com, you should be able to locate which channels are open to outside submissions.
