I'm new to the SEO business. I'm wondering if getting more backlink from forum could help improve my websites' Page Rank or Traffic? How does it work? I'm doubting that backlink to forum discussion topic will only help improve the PR and traffic of the forum...
It won't increase your PageRank by an appreciable amount, but if the links and anchor text are targeted to the forum audience you are trying to attract, they can improve your traffic. And if the people who see those links like the sites and have sites of their own, they may even link back to you.
Forum sure will improve your traffic but dont know how much it helps, it depends on the forum traffic and the post made by you. However, not all the forum will helps on PR, only dofollow forum will provide PR juice
Link wheels are nothing more than the Web version of money laundering. Seriously, Google will catch on to this, and WILL devalue those links and penalize those sites that engage in it.
It will help in increasing your traffic since people in forums can click your links if they are interested with it.
Forums are great way to get the word out to the world about your site (using signature). They can send you needle targeted visitors but forum posting is one of the most inefficient (and expensive if you outsource) methods to get low-quality dofollow backlinks.

As said by others, the most important thing is that the forum to which you are posting is do follow.. With that, it can help improve your PR.. As for traffic, if you have a nice post and the title to your site is quite interesting, then traffic would surely result..
