    Yes, if your main purpose of posting the comment is to gain a backlink, then it is spam.

    About the wiki link. No, since you didn't post it to gain higher rankings for Wikipedia.

    What about e-mail spam? As long as a clever article is attached to it, then it isn't spam?
    Let me tell you something. Even if the greatest scientists and philosophists came up with some of the most clever words the world had ever seen. Even then it would still be spam if they were trying to sell me viagra pills at the same time. Spam is defined by the purpose in which it is made, not by the quality of the content attached to it.
