CTR today is more than twice normal, with 4,051 page impressions reporting in so far this morning. It's making me nervous! I hope AdSense's fraud detection algorithm isn't too touchy. I wonder if this is one of my competitors clicking my ads?
If its your competitors then google will hopefully log the IP address and reduce cpc or dismiss them altogether, take a quick look at your logs and see if there is any IP address standing out
As long as it's not you clicking the ads, then don't worry about it... just let Google do their job. I've had CTR > 50% on some days for some channels, and it's always been fine (wasn't me clicking anything or asking anyone to click, so...)
I noticed the same thing this morning, but it has leveled out now. But CPC has been down substantially over the past week compared to where it has been in the past.
I noticed a strong co-relation between CTR and ad relevance. Whenever I saw a very low CTR and checked at ads, they are, somehow, less relevant that it used to be.
This is a good point. I have looked at AdSense data and seen that on days that have higher CTR the average CPC is lower. There are exceptions, but I see this as some kind of trend. So, probably this log-IP-reduce-CPC thing is going on here. What do you think.? Ajeet
CPC fell to normal levels in the latter half of the day yesterday. It was still my top AdSense revenue producing day ever. I can't wait for channel data from yesterday to become available so I can see which channel was getting hammered -- or if it was an odd across-the-board phenomenon.
I'll bet that you discover that it was not an across all situation but rather one particular channel had one really good ad displayed. That is the tantalizing thing about adsense both with the ads that draw the most clicks and the variable rates paid.
Yeah - its interesting to me how one day you can receive 200 clicks and make $400 and the next day get 200 clicks and make 100. Strange how that goes- especially on the same/similar days of the week.
