Ability to lock funds for at least 50 days before charging

We need something that can lock funds similar to what hotels do.

My client wishes to offer a 30 day free trial of their product. They do not want to charge the customer during this period for anything other than shipping, however they still want to secure the amount in the event the customer keeps the product.

They need a program/service/tool that can put a hold for the product cost on the credit card for up to 50 days before billing (5 days to ship the product out, 30 days free trial, 15 days to return the product). The key issue here is that it has to be for up to 50 days (worst case scenario).

Right now they are using Authorize.net for their transactions. Authorize either cannot do what they need, or they haven't yet spoken to the right person that knows how to do this within Authorize.

Anyone know of anything that can solve this problem?

yep, I think you gotta charge and then refund if there's a problem.I don't think anyone will let you hold funds for that long... at least that I've encountered.
