It is not as easy as it seems.

Firstly, someone has to actually go to them and file the FIR.

There has to be proper documentation about the transactions etc.

The police will not act if they feel it is a case of bad service and not a fraud.

The police FIR will be in Marathi or Hindi. Hardly any junior officer would be able to write an FIR in proper English.

(A few years back, someone from my family had filed an FIR at Mumbai and they wrote it in Marathi. We had to get someone to make sure that the FIR was according to our statements...:D.)

Filing an FIR takes hours. The police will ask about each and every stupid detail that they can think of.

Usually if the amount involved is small - $100 or $200, the police won't do anything. There is nothing in such cases for them...;).

Wherever possible, I would suggest you guys do a chargeback.

Going to the police will only mean losing more time and money.

If anyone files an FIR, i have all of my correspondence with the fraudster--emails, IM's etc. It's obvious he has no integrity or intentions to return any funds.

I honestly don't think any one of you will get your money back or may be its not worth your time now. Best wishes though to all those who lost big sum.

Amitpatel, it's easy for you---a person who was not scammed to say that those who were scammed are less interested.

I for one am NOT less interested. At a minimum, I want this sociopath who pretends to be a depressed 17 year old to no longer be allowed to use the internet for his scams and I would LOVE to see him locked up.

Same here. I know I'll never seem my money back from the crook, but it would be nice to see some sort of justice--if nothing more than an example of how the Indian govt deals with Internet scammers.

The guy has not logged in for over a month now. Chances are that he has registered himself under a new nick, uses a different IP address and is starting all over again. This really sucks! As all his sites seem to be down now, it does suggest that he really is broke and I guess no one here will see their money back. Feel sorry for the DP members who got scammed.

It is very unfortunate that esbdmb was scammed. It is always difficult to do business with so many fraudsters lurking around.

No offence, but is he still living?

Look at his sites http://www.abhishektripathi.com/, they all banned because he has not payed. Maybe he wants to lose all his traces or he has passed away?

I am going to spend a few hours helping the people who got scammed and see what I can find out:

He has a page at http://www.aboutus.org/AbhishekTripathi.com claiming he is 16.....

I haven't posted in awhile - but just an update...no update. I sent him another email or two, but to no avail. This type of activity will unfortunately (or fortunately?) probably make me try to stay local from now on with my programming needs. What a jerk.

Check the post right above yours, and call him on his mobile.

Filling an FIR may not be a bad idea, check www[.]cybercellmumbai[.]com (Website of Mumbai Cyber Crime Cell), find their fax number and fax your stuff, these guys are really high tech (and they file the complaint in English these days since the FIR system is computerised)

But, I'd still suggestion, calling him first, maybe he is a genuine case (If I had an account with that many + iTraders and green reps, I wouldnt do anything like this)

Karma will catch up with this filthy gutter rat. What goes around comes around and trust me, nothing good will come of what he has done and he will be broke all the days of his life.
