Abandoned Purchases with PayPal

I recently built a site for a client and he is using PayPal as the payment processor. My site stats and ad conversion tracking show that people are making it to the purchase page (which includes a PayPal Buy it Now button), but no one is completing a purchase!

I've tested extensively, making full orders and everything appears to be working fine. Anyone have any suggestions on how to test for the root cause of the abandoned purchases?

What type of product is being sold, and how many abandonments are you seeing? Depending on the product / service, it's possible that there is some other factor that is causing buyers to back out before completing their purchase.

Thanks, Jestep. It's the URL in my signature (didn't want to post in the thread just in case it would be breaking the rules)

It's a book (not an eBook)

I was wondering if it was the price (which I have no control over), but many if not most of his ads clearly list the price.

Otherwise, could it be the design? The fact that it is using PayPal? There are so many factors here... that's why it's so hard for me to test.

The site has been up for about a month, marketing started within the last couple of weeks, with xx unique visitors to the purchase page, but not a single purchase! (The fact that only a small percentage of the site's visitors ever make it to the purchase page is a whole other issue that I need to address.)

First, I would drive everyone to the buy now page. For example, http://www.jobssuperfast.com/book-contents.html, should not have a contact the author at the bottom of the page. The bottom of that page should have a buy now link. Same for testimonials. When the user gets hooked, you want it easy for them to click. :)

Can you move that adtracker link away from the buy now button?

Many eBook sites follow a one page layout. I like your design though, I think your visitors may just need more meat to sink their teeth into.

    Good luck

    Edit:

Just briefly looking over the site I could not tell it was or was not an eBook. Get some pictures of that book and show people it's a legitimate book and not a digital download. Clearly show them how the book is shipped and how long it takes to receive it.

There is nothing wrong with your set up of Paypal here. I guess people are generally curious about the final pricing and thus click to Buy Now button to see.

You might need to show the Shipping Cost before they click on the Buy Now button so that they know how much they would ultimately need to pay. There might be people who are not happy about the non-full disclosure.

It be nice if you have an option for instant download which would save the person time and money. Also a free preview of a chapter or part of a chapter would not hurt.
