I have a specific doubt here, I want to register AB.com but it's already taken. Then A-B is available. I am gonna take A-B but am afraid if it would have problems with any possible google rules. Any idea about this?
Someone must've taken it...it's not appearing as available to me. Honestly, I was going to shotgun it.
Theirs no kind of Google penalty for using hyphens in a domain name (in fact it may even help for keyword-domains)... problem is though getting repeat type in visitors or word of mouth visitors will be tough, as most people will try to type in the non-hyphenated domain.
Obviously the two domains are examples. Both mentioned would have been registered a long time ago. To answer the question, google will not penalise you for using a hyphen between two keywords in your domain, I have seen people using a double hyphen even - like a--b.com you would be surprised at how many like this are now registered. Hope this helps Chris
If A and B are your keywords than A-b.com is good bcoz it really works alot - is space in terms of SE
I would like to enter a question here too. Is A-B better for SEO or AB? Its because I have recently purchased a domain name Which is in the format of - TermATermB.com when TermA-TermB.com was also available, so have I made a wrong decision in that case? IT
Doesn't matter... I've just found out as long as you keep it up, and have backlinks, you may get more hits than AB.
a further question, would it be a big barrior for A-B.com to beat the AB.com down just because AB.com was there earlier? thanks
Beat it in terms of what? Search engine rankings? Sales? Traffic? Popularity? Generally depends on how big and established AB.com is. But all things being equal, I feel anyone, not just A-B.com, can beat AB.com with proper strategies.
