Well there are many ways to gain members and keeping them active, not only these being your forum genre, but just anything you offer. So here are a few simple steps to help keep the members on your site active. 1. Give them reasons to stay, if your forum is about cars, maybe make car rewards like if someone gets 1000 post count or someone wins this trivia about cars they will win a remote controlled car or something like that. 2. Be nice and have nice staff members, remember, nothing is obliging your members to stay on your forum, if you be completely rude to them they will not stay and put up with it. 3. Keep your loading to a bare minimum. One thing that really annoys a lot of people, including me is too much ads or huge layouts that takes a excessive time to load. People don't want to spend 5 minutes loading your site. 4. Keep ads to a minimum. Yes you want to have ads, that's fine you need to make enough money to pay for hosting expenses and such, but keep in mind that too many ads will conflict with step 3 and people don't always like ads, they can bare 1-3 but anything more is considered excessive and annoying. 5. Make your forum the best it can be, whether having contests, games, trivia's, prizes or a great community. 6. Advertise on various sites, whether they be in your niche or not. Don't just advertise on the one site, use as much as you can for more effectiveness. So yeah this is my guide to getting some active members on your site, it's not the most detailed or anything, but it will still help and is pretty basic to understand . Pretty much common sense but a lot of people still don't follow it. Especially the ads one as to many people think websites are get rick quick schemes .
It is common sense, but as you stated people never do follow them, that's why this guide was written.
