A Warning About Buying Twitter Followers

I just wanted to post my ideas on buying twitter followers from ebay, or various other websites.
I purchased 1,000 twitter followers on eBay, and I was very surprised with the results. I did get the number of followers fairly quickly, however the followers I paid for were people just like me. They don't click on your links, they just post their own ads and pray that someone will click. I can honestly say that I've never clicked on a link on twitter for one of the "spam" accounts I follow and are being followed by. And they have never clicked on my links either.

It would be far more valuable to you to avoid buying twitter followers and instead do the hard legwork to obtain your own followers. It's easy! See:

Any thoughts or comments? I'd love to hear others' points of views on this subject.

As that saying goes, quality over quantity.

There is no point in buying followers, it means nothing, its a number. You are better off using TweetDeck and creating user groups and monitoring searches. Replying to peoples tweets is the best way.

Hansman is correct - if all you are trying to do is win a popularity contest, go ahead and buy followers or join twitter trains (disclaimer I own a twitter train). The secret to successful twitter marketing is to bridge the trust chasm and that isn't going to happen by buying followers. You have to get out there and interact with the masses.

@alphaerik Yeah that is a good known method, follow a lot of people (max 1000/ day), wait a few days. See who follows you back, and unfollow the people that dont follow you.

I usually run searches for local people, follow them, and place them in a tweet deck group. Then I will reply to their tweets.

@hansman yep searching for people talking about needing a product you offer is another good way... though its alot of work.. ive noticed for every 100 i follow.. only like 15-20 follow back.. everyone on twitter is so damn selfish lol

The best way to use twitter is to get acquainted with your followers first. Even if you have thousands of followers and these people don't even have a bit of information about you or vice versa they don't care what you tweet.

As what you've said "I paid for were people just like me" and to quote alphaerik they are "selfish".

@alphaerik - expanding on that method, its just as easy to send an @message to someone who just searched for a specific product - being a 'Good Samaritan'

ie '@dingleberry, saw you were looking for the same TV as me, I found this review site ~mysite' and have the link go to your landing page for product reviews. Granted due to Twitters rules, nobody else but @dingleberry will see your message (unless they are following you), but that is who you were targeting anyway.

Still not a great way to market, but is more effective these days than mass following and then tweeting to your 5000 followers who are trying to sell you something. There are bots out there that will search for the term and then send the message. Do a trends search for a hot product using your favorite tools then set up the bot.

To be true I don't even think most of the followers you bought are actual people, but just sub-twitter accounts under the person who sold you the followers.
