    Hello friend,

Firstly accept my apology for not introducing myself first when I joined this bubbling forum few days ago. Really, I didn’t know it has ‘introduction session’ until when I browse through today.

    Please pardon my childlike ignorance.

My name is Patrick Ubuane – from Nigeria, West-Africa. I write article/content for online organizations and individuals - which was the first reason I was introduced to this forum in the first place.

Apart from writing, I like sharing ideas with others (you may see my other posts), brainstorm ideas for progress with others, and generally LEARNING from men and women like you, here.

    Now, I hope I am welcome? :) :D

    CHEERS!

You're welcome as long as you don't need my assistance to move millions of dollars from your homeland promising me a hefty percentage of the fortune as a reward for helping you. :p

    Welcome!

I feel terribly unfortunate that you have to tell me such horrible things. Very unfortunate. There are thiefs everywhere in the world - in every contry.

But does it mean everybody living there are THIEVES?

By God grace I am not.

    Welcome to DP Patrick.

I always wondered how 'real' Nigerians feel about the fact the whole world hates their country because so many assholes chose the scammer career path. It must be hard as a genuine online trader from Nigeria to get decent business. How do you feel about that situation? And why is it that Nigeria is such a prolific scammers breeding ground?

PS I'm in no way blaming you, just genuinely wondering about this.

I thank you and others who reply to my introduction.

Well I notice a funny trend against my innocent post. The high, unfathomable, pre-conceived notion against Nigerians. It is funny.

Firstly, many people saw my introduction, read the few negative posts and never to say Hi to me.

Again, the last post – number 6 reply was the only person who welcome me without adding any insulting reference about Nigeria. But I noticed his post had been taken off the thread. I don’t know who did this: the moderators or himself. I don’t know. But I found this rather curious.

The salient truth behind the reactions of your guys, goes far beyond the fact that negligible numbers of Nigerians are sending out scam letters – but rather, I noticed an embedded, prejudicial tendencies spewing out of your bones.

And when we behave against others like, we of course, quickly hinged our actions and belief (and sometimes hatred) on other things. In this case, it is widely some fellow countrymen are bad on the cyberspace.

Again, most of use do constantly exhibit behaviors whereby we are extremely keen (and very fast) at pointing out the flaws of others, while at the same, sweeping their GOOD points under the carpet.

It is like using the bad deeds of Judas to judge the rest of the disciples.

And we rarely point to the negative areas in our lands.

I agree - few Nigerians are slamming the cyberspace with orgies of letters, principally aimed to swindle people across the world. Yes, agreed and I know this fact very, very well. I know this situation before I introduced myself as a Nigerian.

For your information, I am happy and contended to be a Nigerian, and I will never – NEVER – trade my nationality for anyone.

Now, I want you to ponder over these points:

Nigeria is a country of at least 120 millions people. So, should it then mean that the good or bad deeds of insignificant few represent the rest?

Those letters being sent out by those Nigerians are meant to swindle who? The greedy fellows in US, UK, Holland, Asia and everywhere, including Nigeria itself.

Have you asked, what nature of greed are we talking about here? People who want to deliberately make large sums of money through the back door, of course. They want to avoid paying tax and customs duties. Talk of rubbing Peter to pay Paul.

It is always a collaboration between the Nigerian boys and their foreign citizens to steal, but once their ‘victims’ gets to know they’d been outsmarted, they starts crying wolf.

    ------------------------

    Do you know that…

Many giant companies from across the world - USA, UK and others, are in Nigeria, making millions and billions of naira here in Nigeria? We have Shell, Mobil, Texaco, Elf and others making huge sums in the Nigeria upstream sectors.

Thousands of your people are working (and this has been going on) for many year, making good money and nobody molest them? And they love this place and have many good stories to say about us – Nigerians?

Many foreign companies like Nokia, Motorolla and other mobile and telecomm companies are in Nigeria? And that many, many more are rushing every time to invest in this place. Why? Because there are goldmine here, especially in the Telecoms sector.

    -------------------

    Do you think…

That this problem is not receiving the attention of those of us who condemn such acts? Of course we do!

The government of Nigeria is not folding its arms. In fact, our has been tackling this problem headlong, both within and without? One of the ways was to two powerful bodies that has caught and prosecuted people found with nefarious activities of scamming others for money.

And, you will be surprise that many US, British, Germany and other nationals have also been caught, sometimes along side their Nigerian counterparts!

If you want to know more about these two crime bursting bodies, I urge your guys to log on to: Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
    http://www.efccnigeria.org

See the second one here: www.icpcnigeria.com

NOTE: You can refer such mails to the two bodies and you will be on course.

    --------------------------

On a general note, is it right for me to say that…

Because the US has the highest rate of CRIMES in the world, then all US citizens are criminals. Is it proper for me to insinuate such as you guys did against me?

Because get-rich-quick-schemes was started and nurtured in US, then I should say that all US people are like that? Or they should be scorned, abused and treated like inmates of leper colony?

    ---------------------

Doing business with a Nigeria or not!

To me this is not an issue at all. I believe a real entrepreneur will treat others based on the content of character they exhibit. I urge you to check my other posts on this forum, prior to writing my introduction that brought acidic wordings down on my neck.

Try and search them out to find out if they were silly comments.

Furthermore, doing business with me (or not) largely depend on you as a person. It also depend if you are ready to divest yourself of internally generated prejudiced and lumping together of Nigerians as common cyber thieves.

And, how much you can tolerate people of other color, greed, culture and nationality, irrespective of what some people are doing there.

    -----------------------

My little experience using the internet…

On a personal level, I have been on the ‘web’ for quite sometime. I am not new to the Internet at all. By the grace of God, I do write good quality articles for people and organizations who are based in many countries.

Prior to writing this mail, I had replied and sent fresh communications to few of my clients: A magazine editor based in Switzerland. Another man based in US. And all of them knew I am a Nigerian.

    I don’t hide it.

    ----------------------

    Membership of other forums…

I had been a member of the Warriors - one of the most popular forums on the Internet. For several years that I had been a member, they know I am a Nigerian.

I am also a member of selfstartersweeeklytips, another very respected forum. In fact, recently, Lynn Terry the founder of that forum and a respected member of the Internet fraternity recommended my article writing service to another member, when he posted requesting for a good article writer for his website.

You can see her little comment here: http://www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10836 (I only hope the moderators will allow it here.)

Why did she recommended me? Of course, she gave me articles to write for her and she was satisfied with my delivery. And Lynn Terry is a legal US citizen.

    --------------------

    Nigerian in the foreign lands…

Right there in Europe, US and Asia, many Nigerians are engaged in diverse legitimate vocations and businesses. They had been part and parcel of the progress of those countries, but you won’t see and comment on those.

The fastest computer (I think it was chip or bytes) was invented by a Nigerian, based in the US. You guys won’t see and comment on this.

In 1986, a Nigerian called Professor Wole Soyinka, won the Nobel Laureate prize for literature. You guys won’t see and comment on this.

Akeem Olajuwon, a Nigerian basketball player in the US before he retired, was MVP about twice and was a role model to thousands round the world. You guys won’t see and comment on this.

Our footballers are doing well in the European leagues. You guys won’t see and comment on this.

Some are working in the US secret service, Marine and engineering – and other countries. You guys won’t see and comment on this.

Many of Nigerian businesses men and entrepreneurs in other lands are doing well, and employing the citizens there. You guys won’t see and comment on this.

    -------------------------

    My observations…

It seems a Nigerian is not welcome, here on this forum. Though when I register, I was not told so. But, please if this is the true case – please I will like to know.

I was not bombarded with insulting comments or jokes on all other forums I joined, and I was NOT reminded about the scams of my country men.

As a Christian, I am NOT qualified to have or act by prejudiced against anyone or will I judge anybody based on where he came or not.

Not even when two people collected my articles, confirmed the article as GOOD only to bolt away with my money. Those people hasn’t paid me till today. Still I won’t qualified others in those countries as thieves.

On a final note, I leave you all in good peace and wonderful week.

    CHEERS!

    Patrick,

Nobody said you weren't welcome. Gadood isn't known for his tact (no offense Pete) but even so, it was a simple joke that any other member could have made. There's no policy that Nigerians aren't welcome. Me and others were just wondering and asked you, since you seem the first Nigerian here.

You are as welcome as anyone else here. That post got removed because the person pasted the same welcome dozens of times in order to run up their post count - it wasn't sincere, only to deceive our system here.

I can imagine you'd get sick and tired of hearing about it...

Yes, it goes beyond mere 'defending' my country. I agree there are bad issues - just as we have them in all other coutries. But my insistence is that they should not be at the front burners all the time.
    Okay,

ozim400: I said it was a joke, either accept it for what it was and what I said it was and reply with a smiley or piss off.

I welcomed you and I didn't insult you. If you can't grasp basic humour you shouldn't be part of any sort of community.

Funny that because you judged me to be insulting and you have judged everyone here to be un-welcoming believing Nigerians aren't welcome, when they are.

As much as your God and bible is a crock of shit, you should read it sometime.

Didn't you understand that when I put a smiley I was having a joke?
Didn't you understand that after that when I realised you took offence and I SAID it was a joke and not for you to worry, that I was having a joke?

Then you private message me today telling me to read this thread again because you posted a long, stupid reply that wasn't nessasary and full of bollocks.

Sort yourself out you have blown all of this way out of proportion.. just because you couldn't take a fucking joke.

Maybe in future I'll believe ALL Nigerians can't take a joke? (And that's a JOKE, if you didn't realise).
