    If I recall, a Muslim is allowed to break nearly all prohibitions 'when necessary' to continue life. So if stranded on an island with several cans of spam, he's expected to at least try to find other food, but if he is starving and can't find food, the spam is fair game.

    As for calling ham... a hate crime... WTF?

    Even if the kid was teasing and bullying the Muslim kids and slapped the ham steak down as an insult, that's... bullying... not a hate crime.
