A very specific question about match types in google adwords

Hi everyone and thanks in advance. I am a google adwords advertiser and I have a question using match types for better results with my campaigns...

Say I have the following keywords:

    red womens sandals
    womens sandals
    womens red sandals
    blue womens sandals

Now when I create my adgroup I create one for the phrase "womens sandals" but i also want to create one for the phrases "red womens sandals" "womens red sandals". Since "womens sandals" will also trigger the latter two keywords I add the following negative keywords -""red womens sandals" and -"womens red sandals".

My question is this. Google suggests that I simply add the negative keyword -red to ensure that "red womens sandals" doesn't show up for the phrase "womens sandals. However, if I use the negative phrase -""red womens sandals" would it be the same thing or would every word in the phrase be considered negative and nothing show up?

You can better different campaigns... Say one for exact match where you can get results for "red women sandals" and create one for Broad Match where you can add negative keyword "red".

Hope this will help you :)

The way I would do this is to have different groups. You are grouping them by color in your example, so have a Red group, a Blue group, etc. For the generic "womens sandals", have that as a group (I usually name them Generic) and yes, negative keywords of the colors in your other groups just to be on safe side. Just the colors such as:

    -red
    -blue
    -yellow

NOT the full phrase such as you have:

    -red womens sandals

Well, you could but it's not necessary. You just need the one word in a query you don't want to trigger your ads.

The way you have it with the full phrase, you are telling the system to not show your ads when that phrase is part of the query. So unless the query is "red womans sandals", your ads will still show for "womans sandals red". You just need to have "red" as a negative.

Negative phrase match keywords works same as phrase match keyword!!
If you don't want your users to show your ad for red woman sandals.. simply add red to your negative keyword list!!

This is a better option than adding the whole phrase match keyword to your adgroup!

In case you add a phrase match kw to your negative list.
then a person searching for red sandals will probably see your add!!

So, i would suggest you to add red to your negative list!!
If you don't want to sell red sandals any more!
