I have this site network of mine, which pulls visitors but I wasnt earning the amount I expected, yes I used channels, both url and content channels and was using my custom tracking software for web stats. But I knew I was missing something, a way to actually see the visitor activity on the site. I was thinking about something like heatmaps that shows me the area that gets the most clicks and visitor attention. I googled and found couple of them crazyegg, click tale (all paid) and then I found two free ones 1. Click Heat from http://www.labsmedia.com/clickheat/ 2. Click Tracker from http://www.focalmedia.net/clicktracker.html Am using Click Heat (BTW). I installed click heat on one of my site and started by testing it on 4 websites of mine. The few days, I just logged data, and did no changes. Onced I was satisfied with the amount of data collected, I proceeded to change layout of the sites that I were using as scapegoats . I changed the position of ads and put it where the visitors were paying more attention and made sure they were unobtrusive. I changed the position of my navigation and some outgoing links too. Whoa! was I surprised, I had a 90% jump in click through ratio on average, across 3 sites, the fourth site showed a small change, but I am not giving up on it yet. Clickheat requires PHP 5.1.6, CURL, GD ,installed on the server. Although the interface is a bit clumsy and takes sometime getting used too (coded by French programmers ). But to make heavy duty use of it will need some serious work. Thats the screenshot from the programmers site, showing how the heatmaps look like. I didnot use click tracker, since I found the heatmaps of this one much better looking. My Hundredth post
Update: I just tried viewing the heatmaps through Firefox older than version 1.5 and it doesnot show up, any body else having this problem ? It shows up ok with FF1.5+ and IE
