A very cogent question: Does Islam foster violence? (To all Muslims: Please this does not imply criticism, derogation or sacrilege. I ask the question in bid of finding solution to conflicts that besiege Islamic states. I also implore all potential respondents to be socially responsible by desisting from using any inflammatory or scathing remarks. The intent of the question is entirely constructive not destructive. Thank you. I anticipate your replies and comments)

Many look at Muslims who engage in violence and think that Islam endorses violence. What they fail to realize is that Muslims are not angels, they can sin too, they are humans that can go against their religion (Islam), so what we must do to answer your question is to look at what Islam has to say about violence, and ignore the actions of Muslims.

It is very clear in Islam that violence is prohibited, we can see that in this verse of the Quran: "If anyone killed a person not in retaliation for murder or to spread mischief in the land, it would be as if he killed the whole of mankind. And (likewise) if anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved the whole of mankind" (Al-Maa'ida, The Table Spread Out 5:32).

For obvious reasons Muslims are allowed to defend themselves, but even when at war, they are not allowed to killed women, children, old people or cut fruit trees: Abu Bakr al-Siddeeq (may Allaah be pleased with him) gave to the commander of his army: “I advise you of ten things: do not kill a woman, or a child, or any old person, or cut down any fruit trees…” (al-Muwatta’, 982, Kitaab al-Jihaad).

Islam is a religion of peace.

Islam doesn't promote violence. Its guys like IsraeI who promote violence, on thread after thread after thread. Yesterday, he was talking about how all non-Muslims need to convert before it is "too late", though only a month or two ago, he was going on about how he wouldn't mind seeing the Muslims in Iran wiped out. I think what he is actually telling us is that he is feeling very small and insignificant, and he wants someone to respect him.

I seem to find a trend that poorest followers of Islam are those who are most likely to be involved in violence. That comes with some exceptions of course with the likes of Osama Bin Laden who come from a very wealthy background Osama Bin Laden himself is reported to have a net worth of $100 million. But rather get his own hands dirty he wants to be the commander and the financer behind is own little wars. I personally believe that he's been protected by more than just his merry men, but I'll let you be the judge of that.

This thread may create contraversy.None of the religion says to make crime, its all depends on surrounding environment & leaders who teach them to make violance..
