A notice in webmaster tools you can choose which geographical area you want your site to be associated with. At the moment my site is set for the UK area so it seems to rank better in google.co.uk searches but if i changed it to US region would i get more traffic or would i probably just be further down the serps?

im just looking for any info on changing the region your site is from and how it can improve your traffic etc. and also will the change take time to happen?

    thanks

If you think your site is strong enough to rank highly for UK traffic without setting it geographically then it would be a good idea to focus on the US region.

You need to set any geographical area to get uk traffic or us traffic. If you are using proper words related to UK or US you will get relevant traffic. So,do some work on keyword analysis.

Depending on where your website is being hosted you don't really need to geo-target via webmasters central. This is actually a new feature added not to long ago, I haven't seen any valid tests or data on what the results can be from geo-targeting. Naturally if your site is hosted inside the UK you'll rank on Google UK and still have so called "international" results why would you set this feature not knowing the true effects or changes that might be made in the future?
