I would like to sign up an account at CJ and start Affiliate Marketing. But I am not really sure what kind of account I should use. Publisher, right? Can someone please tell me do I have to have a site to join CJ? I think the first step is to join CJ and choose my "niche". Any advice is welcome.

Like most affiliate networks, CJ requires you to have a website before you join. They will approve you based on your website. It helps if your website has decent traffic.

I am a little confused. I understand I may need to build some websites to promote the products on CJ, but why I have to join CJ with a site? I probably won't use my personal site to do this business. I would rather build new ones.

Because the merchants want to advertise on sites that are established and have traffic. Even if you get approved by CJ, you still need approval from the merchants you plan on promoting.

It's not as easy as you think.

That is correct there are 2 approval processeses...the first being for CJ itself and then second for each individual merchant that you apply to be a publisher for.
