Twitter is a social networking site, pretty much like a blog, you just post what you are up to etc, but a lot of people just use it for advertising.

i call it web pager as we send sms to our friends about what we are doing or any thing else twitter works same as SMS on the web your followers who want to receive your SMS you following from whom you want to listen what are they doing
Twitter is a social network that marketers, like I'm guessing most of the people on here, are trying to capitalize on. The issue with this is that there are more bears than fish. It is not a fast traffic driver at all and the way that Twitter puts limits on the ratio of friends is quite difficult to overcome for a newbie. But good luck in your ventures.
