A thought and questions about using Amazon Affiliate

I'm not sure of the value of building a site where the sole purpose of the site is to point people back to Amazon to buy a given product. I guess you might make a small living out of it. If adding a few Amazon products would help complement your blog or other article content and bring in some side scratch that sounds good.

I was thinking that for a small shop that has some of their own inventory of products could complement their own product lines with some stuff from Amazon to help fill in the gaps and make their overall product offering look more complete and larger.

This would be good to use with a dropship model, where the customer does a full checkout and payment through the main web site and never knows about amazon. It may be that the customer buys 3 products, 2 that ship directly from the small retail store and one that ships from Amazon. Does this sound reasonable?

I already have code in my system that will use the Amazon API to get product info to populate the site's ecommerce product database. I was planning to exand this and create code to help calculate the sales order fulfillment options such that it could send a shipment/payment request to amazon for items on a sales order that are to be fulfilled from Amazon.

Any comments on an ecommerce system that would mix products shipped by the store and products shipped by a dropshipper?
