Not bad design, it's good for micro sites, for example portfolio :)

I'd suggest you only to separate the header in single white box (same as the footer)

    Its good, but:
    1. Remove the white lines.
    2. Change up the background color.
    3. Give the buttons a different look, something retro:p
    4. Do that and I'll help you xtml it.

    Good Work m8

@Campolar: I'm sorry I can't comment on your design, I can barely legible through the obfuscating layer of what I can only suppose is trying to be a watermark.

With every time you have repeated the name 'Campolar' across your design I lose just that much more respect for the professionalism of your design, and I'm sure by the time I've managed to find the design buried recklessly behind the futile attempt to protect your work from the very people you are asking to critique it, I'm sure I will be so conditioned to associate your name with the revolting disgust I feel when I see the watermarks.

You example here is an example of what professionals call 'BYC Design'

Pinstripes? Well Apple really popularized them in 2001 with OS X, so why not. (lets ignore the fact that they have matured since and totally phased them out)

Glossy pill-shaped buttons? Wow, again, popularized by Apple. At one point in the past their website used to have plastic tabs across the top. But they've gotten rid of that style because the amateurs that run Apple thought that style was dead and over. What do they know.

Aqua blue! Sure, why not, Apple went aqua crazy back in 2001, so it must be a safe colour to pull out in 2008. It's so ubiquitous (or at least is was half a decade ago) nobody will possibly associate my design with a passé style.

Random OS X window bar buttons? Sure, I mean, OS X is a an operating system that runs software, so naturally what a web page needs is a set of fake window buttons on it - oh no, they're just for style and to confuse the user, because you see, the browser they view the site in will have it's own set of window buttons that actually do something. haha neat trick! it's gotta be wonderful for usability!

A rounded rectangle with squished corner radii? Why not, nothing says "I'm a professional designer who has extreme attention to detail and only produces the finest quality work" like an accidentally distorted rounded rectangle.

So, here's my rationalization, because there's not a whole lot I can comment on design-wise.

What is the purpose of this template? Who is it's target audience, and what does this template hope to communicate? I mean, when I choose a template for a fishing site, I'd expect something that communicates to people who fish. What sort of site is this template for.

Next: how do you plan to deploy it. Will it be a Wordpress template? Static xHTML? Drupal? Joomla? If you're planning to making it compatible with other platforms you might want to start your design taking their unique needs into account: comments links, search bar, things like that.

What I get from it, as a candid reaction: This looks to me like a poorly put-together amateur website from 7 years ago, from a person who didn't entirely understand the nature of web design, or have the technical skills to properly execute the concept they had. (check the funky spacing between the pinstripes and the Lozenge-shapes) But, any remaining virtue it had left was totally obliterated by the obnoxious watermarking that to me simply screams "I'm unprofessional! I'm unprofessional!"

Why is it blue? is there a REALLY, and I mean REALLY good reason why that colour should be used instead of any other from millions of potential colours? Your blues don't work preposterously well with each other, and they don't really provide enough contrast to aid the viewer in deciphering your structure.

I'm not saying you copied Apple's current style, I imagine that might have looked a little more up-to-date if you did.

What you did was mix many of the styles that they popularized back in 2001 with less success than they did.

Is there anybody else on this forum that has ever seen Apple use glossy buttons, Aqua blue, round window buttons and pinstripes before Campolar posted this here?

Oh wait, here's a photo from 2001 with all of those things present, busted.

The design is nice, but it seems like it is missing something maybe you can add more color so it does not look so simple.

my first designs looked pretty much the same but I kept practising and I think now they are much better. you can try to copy templates to gain the skills of course you are not allowed to call then you own or even to sell them but it'S good for practise
