A suggestion

I have noticed an increase in the number of people selling Warez or sites running off nulled scripts in the B/S/T section. I've also noticed that they frequently say something like "PM me for a demo" or "PM for the URL". I was thinking It might be prudent to make a new rule that all demos/URLs must be posted in the thread somehow. They don't need to be active links, but somehow letting people know how to check it out.

I can see there might need to be some slack in a case where the person is selling a site that is down for some reason, even I've done that. I had my host shut down a few sites so I sold them that way, and informed people of that fact. I still gave the domain names to keep it above board though. I have also bought a site that way. Sometimes things happen. So long as it is stated in the thread, things should be ok.

I can also understand that if somebody is selling a huge very active site that they might wish to not allow it to get back to the users of that site to avoid confusion, etc. Maybe they can contact a mod and the mod can check the site out and post that they have checked it out in the thread.

Selling a script though, or other content, there is no need for such secrecy. I can understand if there is no demo. But selling a script requiring to get the demo by PM? That should always raise the concern of warez.

It might help cut back on some of the scams, warez, illegal sales, etc, if it were a requirement to sell something, they had to divulge such info publicly.

Just a suggestion, for whatever it's worth.

I'm surprised Digitalpoint doesn't charge me rent, I practicaly live here lol. Unfortunatly the last few weeks it's been from a computer that I don't trust to do a login from because of potential for virus/password stealers, so it's been without logging in for most of the day. Hmmmmmm perhaps that's why I don't pay rent yet? ;)

I had not seen such a suggestion before. I do tend to keep to the B/S/T area though, venturing out once in a while to learn something lol.

One reason people hide it, is because they dont want Google to find them.

There are ways of showing the info without showing it in a way Google's bots will catch on. I've seen it too many times in here. For example, my own site could be displayed as hangoutarcade (dot) com or hangoutarcade // dot // com or any one of a variety of ways. People do it in here all the time, and we understand, but Google does not.

Exactly! Google uses bots to crawl a site. Bots can only function within the parameters they are programmed with. They can not make real decisions for unforseen situations, they only follow preprogrammed flowcharts. As computer power increases, Google's bots can be programmed with more "choices" but by then people will have moved on and have found other ways. It still boils down to you can give a URL for purposes of a sale to keep things above board in most website sales that happen in here. And as for script sales, if they have them running on anysite as a live website, Google knows about them anyways. Especialy since most of them run Adsense in order to show what their site could look like.
