A suggestion (to be more precise, a request) about BST section

Hello mods, I want to request about making the BST section "paid" here . What I have been observing and facing is, a lot of things going on there every now and then, like, so many people (am pointing specially towards noobs, who just come here to sell something in 24 hours) are putting their sales offers by starting new threads. This is diluting the overall sales in general, because when one new thread is started, the other one obviously goes down and keeps on going down and down, until you either bump your posts smartly or invite someone to give some kind of feedback.

My point here is, please let the genuine sellers have more opportunities to sell their things. I have pointed in the past about selling of "warez" stuff in BST section, and frankly speaking that is still happening..We can report the threads which we come across..but its not possible to report such "lame" threads every time; although sales of such stolen things do not get much attention (many buyers are much aware of such things happening around), but it affects the "rate of exposure" of "genuine auctions". Its not a rant or frustration of not getting enough sales, but a general concern which I am sure many other members are feeling too.

So, all said above, I want to request the DP mods to make BST a "paid one", like we have at sitepoint and at few other webmaster's forums. This will be filtering out the possibility of getting irrelevant or junk sales. I am not saying that it will be curing things up..but I am sure it will be acting as a genuine "filter" for "desperate noobs who want to make quick sales", as 99 out of 100 % will not be willing to pay for making new threads. Obviously, no one has time to go to the 4th or 5th page of sales, when they do not see significant auctions. Result is, even the auctions which are genuine, get buried.

I hope I have made my point clear here. Wish to see some real genuine marketing happening again in BST section. Thanks!

    Been suggested and rejected before.

People cant post in BST after 24 hours, they need to be a member for 2 weeks

If someone is selling warez report the thread and it'll be deleted, the same with any bumping posts you see...

Also making it paid will lose members.

There is a free forum for anything less than $5, so the rest would contain sales threads that have values more than that. Frankly I don't see any issues on such lemons problems after the implementation of the $5 rules and the banning of potential abuses like trading of currencies, stumble digs etc.

If my memory serves me correctly this was suggested before, not that long ago infact.

I'm against the whole paid BST idea, if it still remains as busy as it is someone will have no sooner paid the $5 or whatever for their thread and put it up than it gets buried by other threads, I think dp is just to busy for a paid BST to be fair on those who buy a listing.

I see, I haven't noticed that it was rejected. What I meant by 24 hours was the duration of an auction. People can even wait for 2 weeks to sell their stuff if the incentive is good, which is getting paid for the sales, if any. I usually report the very obvious threads which look like warez things..But I am not always sure which things are genuine and which ones are stolen, so, I can not always report that.

wisdomtool, my concern is regarding script sales and template sales and other ready made things. Ofcourse not sites and account sales, which I know have been taken good care of.
I respect your point here, I suggested that (moreover, I wasn't of this being suggested earlier) because it will be limiting the access to BST by "give me money quick" type of personalities. And If the fee is kept low, I guess it won't be too hectic..like any value less than $5..If not that, there should be some criteria of paying some value or getting authority of doing some fixed number of sales for a particular fee. For example, for $5, a member can post three sales (thats pretty cheap I guess) in a 2 weeks period (giving it a time limit too) I hope you agree on that..

Maybe thread starter should be charged some nominal amount if they want the thread bumped to the front page.

Then everyone would be doing that to their threads, kinda unfair still, but a good idea all the same

LOL, everything old is new again. A paid section is not likely to be added.

No one is coming to the BST area posting ads within 24 hours of signing up. It's technically impossible. They wouldn't have the user permissions yet to post there. They try to spam other areas of the forum with their ads, and we do our best to find those, delete them, and ban when appropriate.

What makes you a more "genuine" seller than someone newer than you? If you want selective ads based on payments, go to Sitepoint or somewhere else. The fact that DP's marketplace is free is precisely why it's so popular. If it weren't so popular, you wouldn't care all that much about advertising here, now would you?
