a stupid question - Sorry!

As a 'test' today I halved my bid price on ALL of my keywords.

Having checked throught the day to see the results they are pretty amazing!

Yes my positioning has suffered. Dropping a couple of places. My CTR has dropped from an average across the ad groups of around 14% to around 9%.

But my budget, low and behold has gone!!

When the bid price is doubled again the budget get used up by the end of the day. When my bid price is halved my budget gets used up by the end of the day.

This means that my actual number of clicks has increased?!?!

So, if I lower my bid price tomorow even further tomorrow does this mean that I will simply get my clicks :)

Or did I just miss something?

you just found a better price for your keywords campaign.

You just has luck this time - is good o try different things, but normally when you decrease a bit the bid price you lower your clicks per day.

Also if you decrease more the bids you will begin to disable important keywords that maybe are the key of sucess of your campaign.

In Adwords is nice to try new things maybe it drive to better results like you did.

The problem is if you decrease the bid and the result is bad, after you return the previous bid - the CTR and position may suffer - so be carefull.

    You missed something. :)
Your current positioning is dependent on your ad performance over time -- the more people click on it, the more it gets shown, however, having a lower bid price will steadily lower the number of impressions over time and it can take an age to get them back up again by increasing your budget.

There's nothing wrong with lowering your bid but you need to leave it sitting for a few days at the very minimum to see where your ad settles in the overall placements.

Sometimes though having your ad in just a bit lower position though can help you gain clicks that are of higher quality since many will click an ad because they are not sure what they are looking for. So sometimes have a slightly lower position where you are still well seen, but not clicked on by non-potential customers can be advantageous to your budget and success. You are always going to get non-customer clicks such as these no matter your position, but if your budget is not huge then this can help you some keep your budget in control to allow your real customers to see you and hopefully buy. Also your position if it was Number 1 and is moved to number 4 or 5 is not always bad as you are still on the first page of searches normally.

This is proving to be a very interesting experiment!!

    1) CTR has remained fairly static.
    2) Ave. Position has dropped a couple of places but still page 1
    3) More of my keywords are being hit.
    4) I am fiding that SOME of my keyword are getting over 50% and upto 100% CTR

Think I will keep this going for a while longer to see if this continues

What are the results you get from the visitors? Are they any good compared to the visitors you got before you decreased the pay?

As you are ranking lower on some keywords I can imagine some of your more profitable (in sales or whatever) keywords get less clicks.

We have found that we are getting BETTER enquiries from the hits we are getting.

Seems that TheNetCode is right in saying that you get a better class of customer when not ranking #1

I find it strange that previously unhit keywords are now being hit though.

Sounds like you are coming into an interesting experiment that may be paying off for you.
