A stupid question, I know.

I've just recently been looking into e-commerce and I find it fascinating but I have a very stupid question for someone with more experience than me.

How do I get a merchant account?

I assume I have to be registered as a business, but then what?

And also does anyone know about the process of getting a Paypal debit card and/or have experience in using one and the charges for using it?

I live in Canada by the way.

You can get a merchant account from your bank or through various online companies (worldpay etc). Generally they just require a setup fee and various agreements regarding chargebacks, though some may require you to register a ltd.

Depends upon the locations. As you said Canada so go to Bank where you have account. Talk directly and they will give you a merchant acccount where yu can have the transaction amount directly deposited to your Bank Account
