A stupid glitch in Webmaster Tools

I get this problem where after a few weeks or a month or so I am asked to Verify my websites via the google Webmaster Tools.

    It says:

    Verification status: NOT VERIFIED
Last attempt Jan 4, 2008: We were unable to verify your file due to a server timeout.

This has happened before and I was forced to reinsert meta and or html file so I could re-verify my sites. Does anyone else have this problem or is there something I am doing wrong ?

    Cheers for any help.

No. I am using more than 1 server for my sites and they all have gone into verify mode.

I've gotten it several times... but then, my host is starting to suck.

In most instances, just click the (re)verify again and all should be well...assuming your page loads ;)

Do you remove the meta tag or file after you are verified?

No. You should leave it there for subsequent verifications.

You'll notice once you add a new site to your WMT account, that site will then be registered with your WMT tool, which gives you a file name to create on your server, if I remember right its something like google-2n528tywthwii3.html, create the file, then if the server ever 'times out' or gives any other error, just click Verify, by file upload, then click upload. You won't need to re-upload any new files as that file string must let Google know its written to your account. It's not that big a deal unless it's happening every time Google crawls your site or attempts to update your WMT info. I've found using the meta tags usually causes more problems than file upload, so I stick with the files:)
