I never understood how, though...do blog readers really look at the source code of every single blog they visit?

Hi, only the more savvy bloggers will do so. But think about this, if the blog owner specifically informs his visitors that the comments do not have a "no follow" rule, don't you think it will get the visitor to post his or her comment? ;)

I agree with the idea as a prompter for more user comments and interaction, but I also agree with it because I've always thought it was foolish to use "no follow" tags in the first place. Blogging is a keystone in the social driven web 2.0 culture/movement/whatever-you-want-to-call-it, so anything that devalues the time and input of a visitor's participation in any way is counter-productive to that.

I understand the blog-spam problems, but have always thought it should be up to the site owner to adopt some method of moderation to deal with blog-spam other than a blanket "no follow" tag which strips incentive from other bloggers to participate in post discussions.
