Today I brute forced the contents of two websites together. The goal is to preserve the PR and SERPS of the existing site while avoiding the sandbox and getting quick indexing of my additional content. I have been working on a site whiich would offer advice to Ebay buyers/sellers at www.q79.com. This was done with a Dreamweaver template, library items and all static pages. It's not finished content wise and I have not gotten any links to it. A couple of days ago I had a chance to buy an existing, established site with a great name from a DP member. The site has been up since 2002, has some PR, and lots of backlinks. It is PHP/MySQL driven with a home grown CMS for updates and management. (Great service on the sale by the way.) I am not an accomplished PHP/MySQL programmer so a couple of hours fooling around this morning convinced me that copying the existing site and moving it to my server was (with the changes I plan) more time consuming that I could afford. I remembered reading about site ripper software so I found one, downloaded a free trial, and in less than 3 minutes had all the content of the database site on my hard drive as individual html pages. ( I am going to have to rethink some things, seeing how easy that was!!). I had to make one pass manually through all 122 pages for some final edits, but was able to get most changes made with Dreamweavers sitewide search and replace. I removed the COOP links from all the pages and don't plan to replace them; that will effect backlinks, but I prefer not to use them. I used the ripper software again on the q79 pages and attached everything together at www.about-auctions.com. It makes for a really ugly transition . I welcome suggestions for ways to smooth rough edges from this relationship and promote long term health, wealth and happiness
