I am a webmaster taking over an existing website. The sites domain is registered with network solutions. It is also currently hosted with network solutions. I will be hosting it with another company called bluehost. Normally I would just change the name servers or do a full transfer. But in this case the client has email address already setup and I don’t want to have to walk them through re setting up there outlook and handheld devices. Client also wants to keep network solutions as domain manager. SO here is what I would like to do. I want the email to stay the same (with Network solutions) I know there is a way to just change the "A record" or something like that so only the website is pointed to my new host. Can someone tell me how this is done? Network Solutions is telling me they need an IP address from blue host. And blue host is telling me to change the name servers to theirs and get an IP address from network solutions so they can create the "A record" they being bluehost. Any guidance would be great. Thanks.
Network Solutions will need the IP address from BlueHost - That's the correct way round Why don't you just setup a email forwarder for the email? If the email address is , setup a forwarder to , so the client will still get his email but to a different address.
It depends upon which DNS server you are about to use. If you use the DNS server of network solution then you need to add the A records for the name www, * and @ from the DNS control panel. All three would point to the IP address of your web server. If you are using the DNS server of your web hosting company then you need to change to the bluehost name server and then add the MX records to point mail server request to the network solution's email server.
