i'm quite new to this so i am still learning

i have some free seo tools with my host account and i am looking at the meta tags options.

Do i need to create meta tags for each page or just the homepage?

What do meta tags actually do?

Creating meta description in each page can differentiate each page from the other page. Some say that meta tags are useless nowadays but for some search engine they still value meta tags.

 

Try to use different meta tags for each page. It also depends on the topic of that page.

You should create the meta for each page.Not for only homepage.

title tag and description tag are quite necessary and basic to SEO. Everything else is bonus, for google anyhow. For MSN and yahoo meta-keyword may still do you some good.

 

Even though the meta keywords tag has declined in its importance over the last few years, SOME SEARCH ENGINES DO STILL USE THEM. It will not hurt you to have them in your page. Everyone seems to always jump through whatever hoop is thrown up in the air by Google and they forget that there is a bunch of other search engines and they all run different types of search algos. I get as much traffic thru my various sites from almost unknown search engines as I do from the major engines. Use any white hat seo tactics you can to help you with all of them. Google won't penalize you for using meta keywords.
