A question of morality or hypocrisy?

    Dear Members,

I have something that has happened to me lately and I want to share it with you guys and maybe get your thoughts.

Now I have a number of websites. I have a science/educational site that I built back in march that I have been struggling to increase traffic on. It now gets about 25 visitors on peak days.

Then recently, I decided to build a porn site just for fun. And you know what is amazing?

Despite the fact that I have not submitted this site to a single search engine like google or msn, this site is already getting 40 to 60 visitors a day!

The funny thing is this. Everyone looks down on porn sites and google will not allow you go put adsense on them, but these sites get traffic jumps faster than all the other sites I've built.

Everyone looks down on porn, but it is the most lucrative industry online. Even porn directories add your listing faster than regular directories.

I guess it is a question of morality/hypocisy.

well I guess there are people out there who are just envious on the billions that the porn industry is raking and all they could do is sack it with all these restrictions.

Both morality and hipocricy can't give you money as much as your porn site does.

You had your fun, now clean up your mess and move on to the next thing. There are enough porn sites out there that you dont need to add to it. Use your powers to lead people to the light side of the force

Tesla has a good point (bracing for the red rep). Porn sites make money. It's that simple. I once considered several years ago, creating a porn site to generate revenue. But there are so many out there that I could not imagine anything new generating traffic. But I guess they do. It may be a case of "if you build it, they will come". It amazes me but it does seem to work. I long since gave up the notion, but just becasue it's a viable business model does not make inherently evil.

Would anyone care to explain how a site that she claims no promotion has been done for suddenly gets 40 - 60 visitors a day in what has got to be one of the most competitive areas of the Internet?

I guess if you have 40-60 friends who are in to porn...or one that's an addict and uses a proxy...

Porn sites for fun...come on. Like Mella said, who the hell build a porn site for fun? I'm looging off for the day - got to get started on my non-profit just for fun hardcore porn site. lol.

Well, the "for fun" part is over the top. I didn't catch that on the first go round.

From what I read it states they didn't "submit to search engines like Google or MSN", and that also porn directories approve listings faster than others. So obviously they've been building up some backlinks.

By the way, I happen to know several folks who are involved in porn related websites (or related porn web services), and I've yet to see any of them try to pull scammy tricks. There ARE folks out there doing things with integrity. I don't see anything wrong with porn sites in general...porn will always exist, and just like there are good diet sites and bad diet sites (or good seo sites and bad seo sites), there will also be good and bad porn sites. If you don't like the content of something then don't visit the site.

Good point. I'm just surprised that anyone could see quick results in the adult industry without massive promotion (link building).

I don't have any problems at all with the industry, just thought it was funny that the opening poster said they were doing it for "fun". It's about the $$$$....

porn domains are known for type-ins, even when they are long and offbeat. People type in "whateverIwant".com and chances are there are enough dudes out there typing in stuff such as asianchickslickinghairyballs.com

So where do you get your content? Do you infringe the copyright of other sites? Or use your own family pics?
