a question about traffic on first page rankings

Lets say that you are the first result for a google keyword that gets 50,000 global searches according to the google keyword tool. How much traffic do you think your site will actually get?

I know there are other search engines (yahoo, bing), but I am wondering if anybody has actually experienced this and could answer my question broadly.

    Thanks!

If you are in the top 3 on the 1st page you will probably get quite a bit. Otherwise you won't get too too much.

You should get about half of the total search results. I am not sure but i think you will get half.

The numbers in general are well-known and well-tested over time, though the source is still claimed to be a leaked AOL report AFAIK.

The point is that, how much does the traffic depend upon the nature of the site? Does a #1 ranking of an Wikipedia of a "buying" keyword draw the same amount of traffic as the #1 ranking of Wikipedia of an "information" keyword? Similarly, what are the numbers for Wiki-to-non-Wiki comparisons and non-Wiki-to-non-Wiki sites?

The result may also depend upon user awareness and psychology, and not purely on site ranking.

Would love to know whether there has been any experiment done upon these lines.

Hi this is very interesting question for getting traffic for particular keyword which have 50,000 global search- we can divide this factor in some steps:
Global search- It is total search in the world. But you can target your website in particular country, if you get global ranking it will be addition advantage to your.
Type of Keyword:- Check your keywords search figure with broad, exact and phrase match Because phrase match keywords can not be promote. If you have exact keywords search figure then you can get good search results for top 3 ranking at search engine.

For some very competitive keywords, like the ones being searched for more than one thousand times a day, all sites from one to ten will be receiving great traffic and hundreds of daily visitors.

When search queries decrease, the top five sites would be definitely preferred than the followers.

Sometimes it's a small percentage of global searches. The number that you see in google suggestion tool is based on adwords data that's why it has high search volume. And the clicks would still depends on your meta description. If your meta description is attracted and convincing that your site is related to visitors searches you can get the visitors even you are not on 1st position.
