Hey guys I am planning to do a medium sized project with about 20-25 domains, but I am a bit confused about the importance of same IPs/name server for the 20-25 domains. There will be 2 of the same kind of sites between the 20-25 domains. Meaning for example: 2 car websites, 2 ringtone websites, 2 sports websites, etc... you get the point. My webhost gave me 5 IPs like these: 66.183.76.54 66.183.76.55 66.183.76.56 66.183.76.57 66.183.76.58 Now what I really have no idea on is if there is a recommended limit on how many domains should be used per IP. One seo guy told me that google changed their algorithm so you can have as many domains as you want on the same IP, because of webmasters who have virtual hosting accounts, but then another guy tells me to use 3-4 domains per IP so now I am totally confused and have no idea. I even tried to search on google to see what the status is on this right now, but no luck, hence why I am making this post =) Also does it matter if all the 20-25 domains have the same name servers (DNS)? and if so is there a limit for that? I am not planning to do any cross-linking between the 20-25 domains, but the reason why I am asking all of these questions is because these days google's algoirthm is designed in a way where you never know if you will be penalized for something you didn't know you were doing wrong, according to them. I know that nobody will be able to figure out their algorithm inside and out, but I am wondering if anybody could help me out with these questions and would greatly appreciate it!
It would be nice to get an official answer on this question... I have had people ask me many times (as a host) and seen the question answered many times in different ways. I will be watching this thread to see if anyone else can shed some light on this one.
I can't answer either, but as far as I know there is a limit in the number of IP's an individual or company can handle due to regulations... hmm.. it seems up to 10
Number of IP's is all based on being able to justify their use. I do not believe a dedicated IP can be assigned to a site just for SEO reasons... it needs to be for anonymous FTP, SSL, name servers, mail servers etc... If you can justify it then you can have as many as you like. The company I help manage has around 100 IP's at the moment and all have a particular use.
Isn't the algo patented? When you patent something you declare what's unique about it, how it work's etc. So that means you can just do a patent search for it and see more about how it works. Anyway, I could be completely wrong.
the problem here isn;t getting more IPs from the host... it's more a matter of what can and can't be done according to google which a lot of us seems to not know lol
I was going to start a thread similar to this, you beat me to it nezz. I have three sites on the same c-class, lets say they're called A,B and C. Now A is linking to both B and C, but B and C arent linking back to A or each other. First question, is this cross-linking? Secondly, from what i've read in the forum, if any site could face any adverse effects of such linking, it should be site A, but what i am actually experiencing and its quite funny to note that site A is ranking higher for keywords of both B and C than the the latter ones which are optimized for those kws. Whats going on guys?
1st thing I would do is go back to my web host and request a 32 block of ip's. Yes you can stack domains on ip addresses but why do that when you don't have to. You can easily justify this and it should not cost you more than a small admin fee to get the extra ip's. Only cross link the sites that are relevant to each other and you should be fine.
right that is what I am doing right now but what should be the limit as far as how many domains per IP if we are talking about a much bigger number than 20-25 domains?
