My guess is that the X is just there to help him design the image and center the graphic, which normally gets removed with the final version. Is your designer finished yet, or still working on revisions?
I think amrox is right, maybe your designer is not yet done with the revisions and this is his way of making his graphic designs in center of the canvas. If it is really bugging you, you could ask your designer to kindly remove the Xs in your logos.
