I have struggled to find a single news outlet, liberal or conservative alike that posted pictures of that Muhammad cartoon that so enraged many in the Muslim world. I understand the reasons they did not post it the least of which was respect. Their main reason was an obvious fear of fallout. However, with news of the Amish children being killed recently, I have seen every media outlet on the planet taking pictures and video of Amish. I was under the impression (from what little I know of Meninites) that the Amish do not like their pictures taken. I've spent a great deal of time in and around Amish communities in past years and as such I respected this wish, as well as several other small requests made of myself or those around me. Amish do not come up to me and tell me I will burn in hell for driving a car or watching TV, and I don't take their pictures or pick on their simple life style. HOWEVER. The media will completely disrespect the Amish by photographing them, but will not show pictures of a silly cartoon? What gives? Why the double standard? Why no outrage over this?
Interesting commentary Mia. I am not aware of any Muslim leaders of signifigance who speak out against Muslim violence against one another let alone Muslim violence against non-muslims. None. The violence against others is not condoned from any leader. Comment upon Muslims in a cartoon and they rampage and kill others. The Pope makes a comment and they are in a crazy dither. Do any of them question it? No. There are no constraints within the community against muslim violence. In fact it is the opposite. Violence against others including muslims is encouraged. The Amish are amazingly peaceful. They immediately moved to forgiveness for the killer and his family. What a remarkable difference. And they don't threaten anyone....so the news media has no serious detriment to take their pictures. I guess the violence and danger issue takes precedence with the international media with regard to the question you posed. You point out a vivid difference among people. Dave
