Is not it good to get organised as a niche industry? I am asking all directory owners to get together and form an association like they have DNOA --for domain! I think big directories like Alive and Aviva should lead us the way and active players/owners must take responsibility for the sustainalble growth of the industry. I invite all sorts of comments-- PS:- I am unaware of it if it is already there--but if it is there --please let me know.
Agreed but if two big player Alive and Aviva come in front of this first then its easy to make organisation or say unity
Thank you all--for supporting the idea! Lol popotalk--I am just a toddler in the industry yet! But I have been thinking of this for the last few days. Infact I thought of PMing you But I decided to open a thread instead to judge the mood --and also compell --big directory owners to lead us forward.
The concept is great The implementation and the organization and set-up is another thing all together Lets make sure that collectively we get it right, as these types of opportunities need commitment and dedication
Agreed! Organization, set-up and management are quite different matter. But every Organization/Association had the same dilemma or problem in the beginning like we are having now! Even UNO started from scratch! First of all --majority of us should agree/form a consensus if we NEED this. If we agree that we NEED-- other things can be sorted out. What we really need is that first initiative. I believe Jeff, John Scott and Chris who have led their companies to the highest peak are our able leaders. We have everything—great leaders, great programmers (an0n) and many willing volunteers -all require elements to form a strong group –we just need the idea to sink in and urge our leaders to take that first initiative and make this happen!
I also think it's a good idea. And if there are directory owners who aren't convinced, they simply don't have to join. Here are some possible benefits: Identifying threats such as directory spammers. Working together to promote the directory sector as a whole. Publicising the benefits of directory listing and searching using directories. Humans do do it better. Forming a voluntary code of practice to increase trust in the directories that belong to the organisation.
I agree with Obelias view. The only problem is who's going to get this action going as this requires good leadership.
I think it is a great idea: Here are some ideas I am throwing out there. -Have 12 founding members -Have 8 contributing members -Each member should pay $10 per year and $1 per directory per year to remain in good standing. -Funds to be used for hosting, domain name and adword campaign and/or other advertising -founding members and contributing members are resposible for 3 articles/posts per year. regular members for 1 article/post per year. -Start off on a wordpress blog, easy to get going and easy to grant members easy access. -Each member shall contribute one permanent featured link pointing to the new site, this will build backlinks fast and help us do well for SEO.
yes and the registration money should go toward the contests and such that we have. But we do need one of the most respectable owners Jeff, Chris, and John Scott to be the founders and the incharge of the money and stuff. I am all up for it ... and a cool thing will be if we get like a seal in dp or something (it'll just distinguish us ) and we can have a seal at our site which will be a link bak to the organization site. (Another way to get it up and popular)
Another Very Nice Suggestion. But one thing Regular Members should maintain a good standing so as there are lots of QBC that could ruin the organization also, there should be some Performance Criteria on How do they manage building up their individual directories, improvements. FLY BY NIGHTS COULD RUIN EVERYTHING.
