At businesscarddesign.com, if you click on the link near the bottom to Personal Business Cards - a page that is NOT mine come up. (http://www.businesscardesign.com/personal-business-cards.html) It's one of those ad-type pages for related terms. Have had websites since 1999, never noticed this happening before. I emailed Support for my webhost but wanted to ask here, too - think I may get a more comprehensive answer! I deleted the offending page - personal-business-cards.html - from my server and re-uploaded the correct version, but that page is still there. I also see it when I use my husband's laptop. It had ALSO happened to free-business-cards.html and professional-business-cards.html, but when I re-uploaded the correct version the offending page disappeared. So they now seem to be okay. How do I get that page removed so that my correct page shows up? And how do I keep it from happening AGAIN? And makes me wonder if this has happened before, or is happening now. Is there a way to check for this type of occurrence at all my websites? Thank you!
From what I can see, the issue is one of the two: Your server has been hacked, in this case, change ALL passwords related to your web hosting/domain - including email accounts. Misspellings. The links all go to businesscardesign.com, note the missing 'd'! Perhaps someone is just parking a domain trying to make money from your customers mistyping your domain name? I would also advise you not to use target="_blank" on internal pages, as it both confuses and irritates users and may well be losing you custom! I would advise you to check links on your site, Dead Links categorises internal and external links - so you can see which links are going to other sites, especially this 'business car design' site. Good luck!
To the sites on the same server/account. This is the case if you have virtual accounts on one server (like a VPS server). If you have shared, change your passwords on that site only. If you have other accounts (regardless where they are hosted) you might want to change it if you have the same account names and passwords. This is because maybe the hijacker (if there is one) can't get into your other accounts, if he finds out your other sites. To avoid confusion, change the password to that site to see what it gives. Then you can change it back if it was successful (since the hacker probably won't try again once he is unsuccessful).
I think it's just the misspelling - I found businesscardesign.com listed as being bought in January of this year, and the server listed in the Whois info is one that showed up on the offending page. Dang, I should have thought of buying that misspelling! Any way for me to know how much traffic that site is getting? I checked all the links on my site and am uploading corrected ones. Thanks!
Yeah, you can get the traffic by going to compete.com I don't think it's enough to get listed there, though. Turns out it's not listed. This means that it is getting very, very little traffic, probably none.
