does it matter - a .org domain name versus a .com or .net? i mean does it in any way affect PR, SER, Adsense earnings? i think it shouldn't... but your thoughts on this?
domain extensions do not affect SERPs at all. Google has come out and said this time and time again. You're fine with a .org
.com, .net, .org and so on have their purpose. The search engines know this. For instance if your site is commercial you would want a.com if your site involves a network of WHATEVER then you would want to use .net. The only problem I could see from the Search Engines IF and thats a big if there is a filter for this and if infact SE's actually penelize site for this but if you where to use a .net for a commercial site or a .org for a network site then there could be a problem but I personally have .orgs .nets and .com's and I cannot honestly attribute any problems to specifically to the type of doman name it is so imo I would say NO. just try as hard as you can to get the correct domain name to fit your site and you should be fine.
you don't need the "right fit." any domain works and is treated equally in google. that being said, a .com is obviously preferable for other reasons. .org is next on my list-- people tend to assume you're non-profit and therefor think you're more creditable, linkworthy, etc
I personally like .net as a second, .com first I have about 20 .nets and they've treated me well so far.
they do, but it's not restricted to such organizations. anyone can use them, and the misinformation about the nature of the .org domain requirements can certainly be used to your advantage
I have some .org domains and as far as i can tell their performance are no different than the .com ones. But personally .com is my favorite. The reason i bought for those .org is simply because the .com was taken.
ORG names are supposed to be for non-profit organizations. Nowadays, spammers use them to evade suspicion. It really doesn't matter if you .com or .org for business purposes, IMO.
i guess it's just easier to remember a .com as well? like that's what a user might try at first if he's actually typing in the URL... but yeah, in technical terms - there's really no difference.
.org was orginally intended for any "organization." pretty broad term, but it's not enforced on any level at all.
It shouldn't really matter which extension you decide to use, however you'd probably want to try and stick to the most appropriate one. A .org extension obviously wouldn't be appropriate for a business for example.
I respect the views of the others but my 2-cent view is that all domains are OK. I'm getting good Adsense earnings from various domains.
I chose to have a .org domain, because mine is a legitimate nonprofit website. When I registered this .org domain, I was not asked to prove anything or to certify that my website was of a certain type. That strongly suggests to me that nobody in the domain-name business cares one bit whether you use .org, .net, .com, etc. (other than .edu or .gov, of course, which do have requirements).
