A noobish question, but how do I...

Check the status of my web page in terms of google ranking and all that? I'm sure I have a pr 1, but I didn't know how everyone checked these things.

Also, how does ranking for keywords work with sites? I know how to effectively use keywords in article marketing, but what about in my own site? I'm adding articles to my site, each one will be keyword targetted to a specific keyword phrase.

For the actual site, like the home page, faq section, etc...do I just sprinkle a keyword in the text and it'll begin to rank for that keyword? I'm a bit lost...

What's this link building business for my site, as well? I want it to rank better, but don't know how to go about building links to it, where can I find em?

    Thanks for helping out.

Link building is nothing but submission of your articles to theme related directories. And also submit your site internal pages to directories so that you can improve more back links to your site.

For the actual site, add the keyword into <title>, alt, <h1-6>, <b> or <strong> tags. As mentioned above, the easiest way to check your pagerank is to install Google Toolbar. i have been using it for a long time and it is great.

Are we talking submission of articles that I write and submit to ezine and like directories with links back to my site, or articles I write to publish on my actual site...ie, do I need to submit those articles to some sort of other site to get them indexed or something? (trying to understand the first sentence of your message)

And as for the second part about submitting my site's internal pages to directories...are we talking pages other than the home page, or all of them?? And how do I submit those to directories, can I get an example of where and how it works?

Thanks for all the helpful info, I really appreciate it everyone.

Go the the Directories/ Solicitations & Announcements section on this forum for links to lots of directories where you can submit pages on your site.

You can use the Google tool for checking PR on IE or FireFox. There are versions for both.

As for your articles on your pages, you will want to optimize the page of the article. You will want to change your TITLE tags and META tags to reflect the keywords. Also, try to put your keywords in an H1 tag on that page as well as sprinking the keyword through the article

When linking to the article, use the keyword and variations of it as your anchor text linking back to the article page (not index page). That gives you more internal linking to your pages.
