Ok, this one might sound crazy.
What if, people could pay to get listings removed from directories ?

For example a company could pay to remove its competitors...

I got the idea from google, when people bid higher on adwords, the people who bid lower for their ads don't show up.

    lets see it that way:
    featured links $5
    permanent links $1 ( non deletable )
    free links 0 ( but deletable )

that could generate extra income for directory owners ;)

well that would be immoral if the person who submitted wasn't aware of the risk, i see it as an opportunity to create extra income by "locking the submitted link"

It's your directory, you do what you want with it afterall.

Hmm, you could take this further and the bribe the Company that has just paid you to remove it's competitors - perhaps by saying you'll re-add them...

    Can't see your idea working

hmm ... interesting idea, but it will take a very high maintanence time because phpLD doesn't support this ...

like people pay and take the spot ... it have to be some other script.

well if they have no notification that their link got deleted, i don't see how they would even know, most people just submit and forget about a directory i think. (
there are so many new ones everyday.. )

But true, i didn't think about the re-adding, i was just throwing an idea in the air.
