I'm offering the free/reciprocal/paid directory model but with some twists. Since popular categories fill up and eventually push the limits of reasonable size I am attempting to have the category become "paid category" when the link population reaches a certain level. Those refusing the fee are moved deeper down the category tree. The reciprocal level doubles as an affiliate program and supplies a free, ready made, populated directory for insertion on websites. By installing the directory each site reciprocates with each other one. Recip sites have the option whether to display free links, however, and for how long. That serves as an incentive for free links to convert to paid. The paid link income will be split 50/50 with recip websites. I believe in the concept that "content is king" and, in the case of directories, links are the content. They draw the traffic and so any websites that generate links and paid link sales deserve to be paid for them a la Pay Per Click system. Variable prices for different categories also seems to make sense. Little league teams just can't and won't pay as much for a category position as a law firm would. I think pricing them the same would be a mistake. This thing is just starting so if some of you would like to test it out check out www.bungeebones.com
