    Sorry for posting in this old thread. But i had a question regarding this technique.

    As we need to enable image indexing google.com/sitemaps

    But i checked all the options for google.com/sitemaps but could not find anything like image indexing. Can somebody direct me to that option??

    I got an idea, didnot tried, people your opinions please;

    1. Search overture or something like sites for most searched keywords.
    2. Go to google image search and enter this keywords.
    3. Copy paste the image in the first 2-3 pages to your site. Your site need relevant page (for example: image gallery, fun pics etc. section, also note images are not copyrighted or use with respecting source).
    4. Enable image search in google.

    Now, I highly suspect, when people will search for above keywords, these images in your site will appear. People will click and you get traffic.

    Thoughts?

    sounds like a good way to get a site removed from google all together. i wouldnt use it if you care about the site.

    I have some concerns about this trick. As others have written, it relates on pulling an image from Google's cache (being a PR10 site). To be somewhat more on the legally safe side, I could even get my own pictures indexed and then refer to the google cache of them (instead of my own direct links). So the copyright holder would retrieve the picture, just using google as a web cache...

    As far as traffic is concerned -- isn't there so much rumor that google gets alerted? Banning images from their own cache servers should not be a big deal for them...

    you don't have to do use Google images at all :) Im referring to a white-hat technique....nothing illegal or unethical....also, if you're concerned about copyright infringes, then get your images from istock...if you want them free, there's a lot of pics that are public domain.
    Just google "public domain photos" "public domain images" ... and use other keywords you think will give you best results. Be creative :)

    I too can vouch for this method. I had an old project which I dumped and just left all the files on the server. The site hadn't been updated in about 3 months and I went to check my monthly web stats and I saw this site was still drawing over 2000 uniques a week and I couldn't figure out why. I checked the referal links and I had a lot of incoming traffic from various google image search locations.

    Regardless of the controversy surrounding this topic - that's still pretty darn impressive. I don't feel comfortable commenting on the ethics of the practice, but it seems fairly gray to me. I'm sure that Google is aware of it and will take action to rectify it if it deems it unethical.
