Once it is up and running, we will be more than happy to have a look at it and see what it can do, (or what it should do :)).
You might also want to start your own thread; I am a bit confused with some of the replies.

Slow? How is it slow? It reads straight from a mySQL DB! What's your connection?

As I mentioned already, you are getting mixed up between the original thread and the new you started in the middle.
The reference to slow was not about your SE but the one mentioned in the original post.

    I developed a search.
It's most important option is Random.

Most search engines return too much advertising to
    be real search.

I don't like the site because:

    1. It only pulls results from 1 search engine

    2. Too slow for it to be a real competitor

    3. Tacky userface

    4. Search page looks like a cobranded portal

    5. Not a good choice for domain name

There are some reasons. The main ones anyway.

A metasearch engine can be very effective if used in the right way. Why pull results from 1 engine if you are a metasearch engine?

It being too slow could be that either it is on a very cheap shared host, or that a popular keyword cache was not created. Basically there would be no database for search history to save, so every search would be a fresh one. It would work very slow on shared hosting.

If it is on a dedicated server then it needs a cache, and probably to remove cpanel or plesk, whichever he uses. Work from command line means 1 or more less programs to run off the server. results would be faster.

Design was not well thought out. No reason to have all those colors. The user is there already. Anything that does not look neat and clean would sicken a user, and make them move on. Suttle colors, and easy to read text will bring visitors back.

Also, when a user is given too many different options at once, it tends to frustrate them. Not that this applies to that particular site, but just something to think about.

There is alot of value with metasearch engines if the proper tools are used. They are relatively new technology on the net, and I forsee them being used much more often as long as good ones are created.

Mine will operate much like dogpile, with alot more features. It will let webmasters run an xml feed from my site like googles adsense, but way better.

Googles adsense really sucks if you ask me.

These are just my opinions on this whole topic. I don't mean to offend anyone. I am just giving my educated opinion. I have been studying search engines for quite some time now. All research for the next big metasearch engine to hit the web.

MSW search looks OK, but I can only get the first page working (In Firefox at least). When I click on "2" or "3" nothing happens.

Your site is interesting - but what does it keep saying my search is too broad?

Also, when it does this, it doesn't let you enter a new search, you have to hit "Back"

    So...
    Generic

Come on guys I dont understand what you expect from this you really think people are going to stop searching on Google, Yahoo, or MSN to search on a site like that its good to see that you can somewhat recreate the SE but damn it has been done before...you have to improve on an idea, if you want to compete in a market so monopolized....

    Geez...

So very true, and that is what I am trying to push for in mine. Also, to add that it would be nice to offer some new features as well.

In order to compete with the major players, you have to have quality. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with metasearch, if presented correctly.

It needs to be pushed a few steps further.
There is alot of aspects to this. Much too many for me to put in this post.
The divide, and conquer theory is not going to apply here. There is no way that a bunch of half assed sites are going to compete with giants with a seemingly unlimited budget. It's just not possible.

The major metasearch engines, are very profitable. Infospace, and mamma, do very well. You have to really analize them to see why. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. My base is going to be like theirs on steroids. So many plans, and not enough time.
Regardless. It will happen. I just can't understand why I have seen so many bad examples. It really dissapoints me. Oh well. The market is open for me!!
