A new deep link directory...can you charge for links?

Do you think that there would be any interest in a deep link directory that charges like a buck or two for deep links...even if it was a brand new directory with no PR? I know that lots of us are afraid to pay for directory links now, but a good directory for deep links only seems like it would always be useful. Any ideas, or are there tons of them out there already? I ask because I picked up a good domain name and was thinking of starting a deep link only directory and charging a very minimal fee for links.

I wouldn't mind paying just a couple of bucks for a few links to other pages on my domain. It creates higher count of references to my domain which is only beneficial in a long run.

    Hello...

Do you think that Business owners and clients are worried about "PR" (most dont even know what that little green bar is nor do they care) or spending
$20-$50 bucks for a listing in a quality directory that will be around for years?... Evidently not as we have no inner PR to offer yet the submissions
come in daily just as much as when i did have it to offer. :p

In the end they just want to make sure their link doesn't disappear after they paid for thier review and accepted into the directory ;)
And, If the money that your charging will go back in to your business then i see why not :)

The only ones worried about PR is google since they cant make money off it....

Regardless much success to you and your directory

    thx

Thanks for your opinions. I may just give it a try to help those (like myself) who need some good deep links, and to add a couple extra dollars in revenue to my cause.

First and foremost let me highlight that PR is no longer a major factor we should be considering when doing submissions. Instead traffic, backlinks, index pages, etc are more important. As for a new directory I would suggest to leave it for free submissions for the first couple of weeks to get the empty catagories filled. Leaving "free" does not mean you should accept all free submissions you get. Do reject sites when and where necessary. Once the directory is little established you may start charging a review fee.

There is a mod available to buy that can help you provide that, regarding charging a little for ech deeplink submitted for review.

Interesting that you mention "even if it was brand new with no PR" as a while back, plenty of people discriminated against a directory with no PR, it wasn't very long ago that some would tell you that you gotta get some PR for the submissions to increase.

And if i can be really blunt, the message now is really different mostly because the very people talking about PR either have less or none.
Now i bet if PR had increased as expected and there was none of this nonsense that the same people would still praise PR.

Not knocking anyone, but ive seen no one point that out, how it suddenly changed so im thinking that maybe people be a bit cautious about telling everyone that PR means nothing now, as again its being somewhat arrogant with regards to google and you really dont know what they could do in the near future.

I read somewhere else (not a forum) that dismissing PR completely would not be a wise thing to do.

If PR matters or not, who knows, but are you really in a position as a directory owner to tell people if it matters or not? think about it.

Because PR this time didn't turn out as expected for some it still doesn't give you any say over it.

You can run your directory as you wish, but google can run their business how they wish also, ive chewed on that and swallowed it, unless you can take google to court over something, you really only can accept their business as it is.

I think it's more people connecting PR and price, not that PR is good or bad.

Well i know that any directory owner can choose to not do PR, they can say for them it doesn't matter any longer, but it cant go beyond that.

Even if someone cant stand hearing about it now, can that stop google giving you some PR? :) theres no escaping it, what if the PR goes nicely up next time.

You can choose not to think, talk or include PR related anything in a directory, but you cant take it beyond that, google owns it, they control it.

Well I should have my new deep link directory up and running in a day or so. I don't know any .php coding, so I'm doing it all old school html, which takes longer, but it's what I know. It probably won't be as streamlined and seamless as some other directories out there, but it's going to be unique, and I think everyone will be happy to have some links there. I'm going to do free regular links for a while to get some spots filled and go from there. I hope everyone likes it.
