This new search engine wants to promote European content and it looks like it will be a serious competitor for the big ones.. what do you think about it? Do you think that there is really a "threat of Anglo-Saxon cultural imperialism" as the article says?

I do believe that Google is THE search engine, and this is proved by the number of services they are currently offering to the market. On the other hand there is a large number of people believing that G is only "one voice" in the market meaning that only the Anglo-Saxon culture is promoted by the Internet.

What do you think about it?

    Regards
    Falco85 :)

Chirac probably won't be in power long enough to see it fail.

The quickest road to failure usually leads thru political support :p

Funny how the French are always worried by the "omnipresence of US culture in French society" until someone is breathing down their necks in occupying their country.

"Mr. Chirac's words [against what he calls 'Anglo-Saxon cultural imperialism'] have found favour with French intellectuals..."

    Need we say more?

Maybe instead of creating a competing search engine I'd offer support to a big one... it's a saturated market, but enhancing contents with new ideas and localizing the results may be a good idea. Even if google is doing that by itself lol

Do you see something wrong with that?
That's a stupid combination of words. Is the US suffering a "Christian cultural imperialism" ?

what lorien was saying is that european cultural roots that are mainly christian (it's history, not for anything else), now are getting changed because of the civilizations mixing..

well here in Italy this is not seen as a problem, don't know in the rest of Europe.. but I think that in USA this is seen like this from many persons because of 9/11 and don't know for what more else

    That's correct :)

My question is: what a new "big" search engine would mean for SEO? How people would go to discover the tricks to rank high with the new algos?

In my opinion good seo does not target a certain search engine. The receipt is clear, quality unique content, relevent links and a reasonable onpage optimization. So, bring them on!

    Damn you Jagger! :D

Good point, but I placed them at first to get indexed, I did not remove them because they positvely helped with pr not serps. pr is not important coming from irrelevant links but, hey I love green.

As if anyone needs to pay attention to what he says... oh yea! *we're the imperialists*

Like he must of totally forgotten his acceptance of bribes from Saddam in the oil for food scandal. Cuz that is what freedom lovers everywhere do! Accept bribes from Brutal dictators to keep quiet!

Haha. That Chirac's quite a character.

I find government backed search engines quite disturbing. Guess that's socialism for ya.

    1. Google has more marketshare in France (82%) than almost any other European country. That means the French love Google.

    2. Lorien hit the nail on the head - Muslim cultural/political/religious imperialism is their biggest problem, not American imperialism.
